Western Systems WS340
Here is a 386 PC I was donated recently, it's badged as a Western Systems WS340, but I can't find out anything about this PC or Western Systems online
It appears to have a 40MHz 386 AMD processor, with 4MB's of RAM, VGA graphics card, and a 85.3MB hard disk, the PC speaker is the only sound hardware available, and it has a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive, not much else is installed hardware wise
Keyboard and mouse
An unremarkable keyboard, it has the larger XT DIN connector
A serial mouse, it looks like the mouse from my Dell Optiplex 433sl, but with a 9 pin D Sub connector instead of PS/2
Documentation
This is all the documentation I got with the PC
PC Network adaptors
I got a network card and PCMCIA adaptor in this box
This is the card, it is branded Netgear
This is the PCMCIA network card
It has an adaptor for Ethernet and 10base2 types of network
There was a blanking panel in the box as well
Documentation, disks, and original receipt
Apple network adaptor
Now this looks like it's for an Apple Macintosh, some sort of network adaptor I believe
This is the PSU
Asanté Talk
Connectors on the box with the Apple branded splitters, the right socket on both splitters have been damaged
The Apple branded splitters
Two cables with the plug
Software
Lotus Ami Pro disks
Microsoft Works disks
Various other disks
Microsoft Windows 3.1 disks (Copies)
Some of the disks came in this little plastic box, I remember these
The rest of the disks were squeezed into this envelope, it appears to be for Microsoft software
Random 25 pin DSub Cable
Hewlett Packard Deskjet 500
Printer PSU
HP Deskjet 500, I had a similar printer to this back in the day, it was crap
Various parts of the printer
Expansion slots, used for Font cartridges etc
Printer connections underneath
A "new" printer cartridge
WS340 PC
It's quite long
Pretty unremarkable looking even if it has three 5 1/4 inch bays and eight card slots available
Quite a lot of empty space here, plenty of room for expansions, there is a parallel/serial card and a VGA card already here
The hard disk, Western Digital WDAC280, 980 Cyl, 10 heads, 17 spt, 85.3MB, it still works
PC speaker and spare PSU connectors
The AMD AM386DX-40 processor
80387 maths Co-processor socket
Crystal running at 14.31818MHz
Opti 82C495 SX chipset
Eight slots for RAM, currently has 4MB fitted
Tried to get the back of the floppy drive
Western Systems (KEC) CA14MG Monitor
Pretty standard SVGA monitor, it's a little soft meaning it's been used for a long time, it has all the normal controls you would expect
Fixed VGA cable with detachable mains lead
Everything looks in order, so smoke test time
After a fiddle with the mains lead that wasn't making a good connection, it boots
The Turbo button switches between Lo and 40, the buttons have lights above them, including the reset button which lights when you press reset
Various screen shots, the PC boots to the F1 Windows 3.1 and F2 Dos 5 menu
This is Windows 3.1, the photo isn't out of focus, this is what it looks like
More screen shots, it all works!
