Western Systems WS340
Here is a 386 PC I was donated recently, it's badged as a Western Systems WS340, but I can't find out anything about this PC or Western Systems online It appears to have a 40MHz 386 AMD processor, with 4MB's of RAM, VGA graphics card, and a 85.3MB hard disk, the PC speaker is the only sound hardware available, and it has a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive, not much else is installed hardware wise Keyboard and mouse An unremarkable keyboard, it has the larger XT DIN connector A serial mouse, it looks like the mouse from my Dell Optiplex 433sl, but with a 9 pin D Sub connector instead of PS/2 Documentation This is all the documentation I got with the PC PC Network adaptors I got a network card and PCMCIA adaptor in this box This is the card, it is branded Netgear This is the PCMCIA network card It has an adaptor for Ethernet and 10base2 types of network There was a blanking panel in the box as well Documentation, disks, and original receipt Apple network adaptor Now this looks like it's for an Apple Macintosh, some sort of network adaptor I believe This is the PSU Asanté Talk Connectors on the box with the Apple branded splitters, the right socket on both splitters have been damaged The Apple branded splitters Two cables with the plug Software Lotus Ami Pro disks Microsoft Works disks Various other disks Microsoft Windows 3.1 disks (Copies) Some of the disks came in this little plastic box, I remember these The rest of the disks were squeezed into this envelope, it appears to be for Microsoft software Random 25 pin DSub Cable Hewlett Packard Deskjet 500 Printer PSU HP Deskjet 500, I had a similar printer to this back in the day, it was crap Various parts of the printer Expansion slots, used for Font cartridges etc Printer connections underneath A "new" printer cartridge WS340 PC It's quite long Pretty unremarkable looking even if it has three 5 1/4 inch bays and eight card slots available Quite a lot of empty space here, plenty of room for expansions, there is a parallel/serial card and a VGA card already here The hard disk, Western Digital WDAC280, 980 Cyl, 10 heads, 17 spt, 85.3MB, it still works PC speaker and spare PSU connectors The AMD AM386DX-40 processor 80387 maths Co-processor socket Crystal running at 14.31818MHz Opti 82C495 SX chipset Eight slots for RAM, currently has 4MB fitted Tried to get the back of the floppy drive Western Systems (KEC) CA14MG Monitor Pretty standard SVGA monitor, it's a little soft meaning it's been used for a long time, it has all the normal controls you would expect Fixed VGA cable with detachable mains lead Everything looks in order, so smoke test time After a fiddle with the mains lead that wasn't making a good connection, it boots The Turbo button switches between Lo and 40, the buttons have lights above them, including the reset button which lights when you press reset Various screen shots, the PC boots to the F1 Windows 3.1 and F2 Dos 5 menu This is Windows 3.1, the photo isn't out of focus, this is what it looks like More screen shots, it all works!
