Atari Flashback (2600)

image

I've been trying to get myself one of these for a while, but everyone wants silly money for them. However, this "untested" one came up on Vinted for a reasonable price, so I bought it. I already had the 7800 version, I wonder if they do a 5200 version???

image image

It comes boxed, which is in a reasonable condition, it claims to have 100 games and two "wireless" joysticks included

image image

Look at those people, look at them, see how happy they are while playing the Atari Flashback

image image

Multi language so the sides of the box are text heavy

image

No vacuum formed plastic here

image image

The unit is very light, it looks ok though, imported by Argos

image image

The front has two Atari standard joystick ports, and the infrared receiver for the "wireless" joysticks

image image

The sides are plain

image

Composite video and mono audio like most other plug and play TV games

image image image image image image

The "wireless" joystick looks like the joystick from the Blaze Atari, but with a IR LED instead of a cable, and a smaller battery compartment

image image image

The second joystick looks the same without the buttons

image image

This is the PSU that came with the console, I hope they didn't plug it in as it's clearly the wromg one, 28VDC!

image image

Not sure what it came with originally, but the plug fits in the hole, so now I have two of these without the correct PSU, marvellous!

Update

I found the power supply for the Leap TV is the same as the power supply for the Flashback, so lets connect it up and explore

image image image

A brief view of colourbars, followed by a copyright screen, then into the menu, I couldn't find a small enough screwdriver to open the battery compartment for the "wireless" joystick, so a Spectravideo 318-102 (Quickshot II) will have to do for now

image image image image image image image image image image

The Flashback version 6 has 100 games to choose from, they are arranged in alphabetical order over ten screens, you do get the box art and the genre of game for each selected game, but no instructions

Here is Yars' Revenge, I like this game
